Our FAQ is a list of frequently asked questions and helpful answers on particular topics.
The directive of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority states that
- fifth wheel couplings,
- sliders,
- mounting plates,
- dual-height fifth wheel systems,
- towing hitches,
- drawbars and
- drawbar eyes
are parts that are subject to type approval. Type plates are documents that must be issued and mounted by the holder of the general type approval (ABG), EC approval or ECE approval.
The type plate allows the ABG, EC and ECE type approval to be assigned to the respective component. The corresponding load conditions are also recorded.
For the axes, the type plate is used to identify spare parts.
You can request a new type plate from us.
Please note the different information requirements which we need to issue a type plate.
We need the following information in order to issue a new type plate:
- Serial number of the component (if available).
- In the case of fifth wheel couplings made up to May 2018, you will find the serial number stamped on the side of the fifth wheel coupling plate.
- Instructions on how to find the number are available in the following PDF.
- Photos of the fifth wheel coupling and the structure
- Height of the fifth wheel coupling
- Substructure (mounting plate, slider, frame assembly)
- If your JSK38 fifth wheel coupling is converted from 2'' to 3.5'' (or vis versa), a new type plate is required to ensure technical data matches. In this case, please request your new type plate by informing us about the conversion and a submitting a picture of the original type plate.

We need the following information in order to issue a new type plate for EVHD or EVM:
- Serial number of the component (if available)
- Instructions on how to find the number are available in the following PDF.
- Photos of the slider.
We need the following information for a JSKSL or JSKPO:
- Series number of the fifth wheel coupling (if available)
- In the case of fifth wheel couplings made up to May 2018, you will find the serial number stamped on the side of the fifth wheel coupling plate.
- Instructions on how to find the number are available in the following PDF.
- Photos of the fifth wheel coupling, the slider and the structure.

We need the following information in order to issue a new type plate:
- Serial number of the component (if available)
- We require photos of the towing hitch for identification purposes
These should correspond to the sample photos as far as possible. - Hole pattern of the towing hitch
- Bolt diameter

- Dimensions of the mounting plate: length x width x height
- Stamped approval number (e.g. ECE)
- Make of vehicle on which the mounting plate is mounted
- Photos of the mounting plate

At a towing eye for welding. Form A
The towing eye for welding has no seperate type plate, all information is embossed directly on the towing eye.
To determine the spare part number:
- Dimensions h and b
- Dimensions of eye
- DIN designation
- Photos of the drawbar eye
At a towing eye for bolting. Form B
The towing eye for bolting has no seperate type plate, all information is embossed directly on the towing eye.
To determine the spare part number:
- Dimensions h ,b and l
- Dimensions of eye
- DIN designation
- Photos of the drawbar eye/title block
Towing eye with flange. Form C/D
Depending on the version, the type plate is located on the side of the shaft or on the mounting flange. The homologation number is located on the mounting flange.
For exact determination of the drawbar eye:
- Homologation number
- Hole pattern dimensions: dimensions a, b, c, d and e
- Photos of the drawbar eye / title block
Determine drawbar eye type and dimensions of eye (e.g. 40 mm DIN 74054A)
- Photos of the drawbar eye
- Determine dimensions B, E and D
Determine dimensions (construction size)
